One thing that will never change is that comic book characters costumes are constantly in flux. Usually costumes are changed for narrative reasons, editorial mandate, or just to update the look of a hero to bring them into the modern age. Daredevil is no different, so here in this article I am going to go through and rank a bunch of DD costumes from over the years.

#8 White Suit

So we are starting out with the newest take on DD. This all-white costume first appeared at the end of the Chip Zdarsky run of Daredevil in 2023. He first dawns this costume when he goes to literal hell to fight the Beast (the evil entity behind the Hand). Though it gives him a little power up and looked amazing in that setting, it really loses its appeal when he is swinging around Hell’s Kitchen at night.

#7 I’m Not Daredevil

Next we have the “kinda” Daredevil suit. It made its first appearance during the Mark Waid/Chris Samnee run of DD. After being outted as Daredevil, Matt decides that he is just going to embrace it. This outfit blends the color scheme of a classic DD suit with the more lawyer-ly suit from his day job. Though it is a fun take, I much prefer Daredevil and Matt Murdock to be separate aesthetically.

#6 Black Armor

So now we get to the 90’s Black Armor section. This one first popped up in the Fall from Grace story after a fight with Silver Sable. I feel like this costume was just a product of the direction that comics were headed in the 90’s, think pouches, shoulder pads, giant guns, and armor. This suit recently made an appearance in the Daredevil: Black Armor mini-series.

#5 The Black Suits

Ok so this one I am lumping together a couple suits, mostly because they have always felt very similar to me. First we have the Shadowland black suit. Matt dawned this when he took over as, not only the kingpin’s role, but also that as the leader of the Hand. It fits the story well but I was excited to see him go back to his roots when it was over. Next we have the post 2016 Secret Wars black suit. Here we see a lot of the same notes from the Shadowland version but with a little bit more of the boxing aspect of Murdock, i.e. wrapped hands and boxing type boots. I enjoyed it for a while but again was happy to see him revert back to the red.

#4 Classic Yellow

I used to be very against the yellow suit. Yes, I know this was the original classic look of DD. But that being said it changed after only 6 issues. In recent years though I have really come back around on the yellow. I’m not going to say that the way it looked in live action in She-Hulk swayed my opinion at all but it absolutely did.

#3 Man Without Fear

Speaking of costumes that live action adaptations did very well we get to the all-black Man without Fear costume. This one first made it’s debut during Frank Miller’s DD run. It is a much simpler costume, the kind you would just look around your house and put together, and I think that’s part of the charm of it. The Netflix Daredevil show did breathe new life into this look for me, and I’m glad the general public got to see their take on it!

#2 King Daredevil

I am always a sucker for a superhero with an awesome beard! Here we have one of the newer DD costumes. This one really leans into the ninja aspect of the character. It shares a lot of the same design features as Elektra’s Daredevil costume, it seems like a looser fit, ninja style gloves, and a hood. I absolutely love this style and think that an all-red variant of it would be stellar!

#1 Classic Red

Last but not least we have my number one choice of Daredevil costumes is the classic red. It’s so hard to not pick this as the number one, when most people think of Daredevil this is what they see. It made its first appearance inv 1964’s Daredevil #7 and was designed by the legendary Wally Wood. The last thing I will say is that there is a reason that they continue to return to this iconic look!
